Abstract

Beauty and Sadness is one of the famous novels that has earned the nobel prize written by Yasunari Kawabata, who is one of the novels that can be analyzed from different studies of literary theory. The study of psychology, feminism, new Historicism, and historicism is an example of a theory which is suitable for analyzing the novel. One of the theories that can be analyzed in the novel is The Historicism. Yasunari presents the results of this work by focusing on the various points of view of the author of the life of the original society in Japan. Based on a comparison of the author's biography and works, readers can understand that the author engaged in various forms of the setting and roles in the novel. The prominent points of the study of historicism in the novel is Kawabata retains the traditional values of Japan, which is considered very valuable although the story unfolds is the romance of life by modern society that hedonist.

Abstrak

Novel Keindahan dan Kesedihan merupakan salah satu novel terkenal yang telah memperoleh nobel yang ditulis oleh Yasunari Kawabata, merupakan salah satu novel yang dapat dianalisis dari berbagai kajian teori sastra. Kajian feminisme, psikologi, historisisme, dan new historitisme merupakan contoh beberapa teori yang cocok untuk menganalisis novel tersebut. Salah satu teori yang dapat dianalisis dalam novel adalah historisisme. Yasunari menyajikan hasil karya ini dengan menitikberatkan berbagai macam sudut pandang pengarang dalam kehidupan aslinya di masyarakat Jepang. Berdasarkan perbandingan biografi pengarang dan hasil karya, pembaca dapat memahami bahwa pengarang ikut terlibat dalam berbagai bentuk setting dan peran di dalam novel. Poin yang menonjol tentang kajian historisime dalam novel ini adalah Kawabata tetap mempertahankan nilai-nilai tradisional Jepang yang dianggap sangat berharga meskipun kisah yang diungkapkan adalah romantika kehidupan masyarakat modern yang bebas.
